First Light on the Ganga

The trip opened gently on the ghats: suspension bridges, temple bells, cold river wind, and that unmistakable shift from city speed into mountain time. Rishikesh became the reset before the long road north.

Before the snow came the rapids. The rafting stretch added a bright, kinetic opening to the journey: helmets, paddles, glacier-green water, and a full reset before heading deeper into Uttarakhand.

Into the Mountain Weather

The road narrowed, the clouds dropped, and the trip changed character. Mist moved across the bends like a curtain, giving the approach to Sankri a quieter, more cinematic edge.

The Snowline Appears

Sankri delivered the first wide Himalayan views, then the trail moved into pine, ice, and packed snow. By afternoon the tents were up near Juda Ka Talab, with boots drying beside orange canvas and a frozen lake nearby.

Base camp was all contrast: orange tents against clean snow, bright noon light, frozen edges, and long mountain shadows. The day was slower, but the altitude made every small movement feel earned.

Summit Morning

A Slow New Year Morning

Back Through the Valleys

The return traded snowfields for dry valleys and long road hours. By Delhi, the trek had already started turning into memory: wet boots, summit light, river water, and the strange calm after a hard trip.
